Boston

Explore Boston Port, Lincolnshire

Boston is a historic port and market town located on the River Witham in Lincolnshire, joining the North Sea at a part of the coast known as 'The Wash'. It was on the edge of 'The Wash', where one night in 1607, a determined group of separatists secretly joined a boat.

The group planned to escape the authority of the English church, fleeing across the North Sea to Holland.

However the group were betrayed, arrested and brought to Boston Guildhall for trial. Today you can visit the Guildhall and see the cells where they were held. Delve deep into the story of the Pilgrims as you explore the special exhibition.

Nearby you can see the Pilgrim Memorial marking the point at Scotia Creek, Fishtoft, from where they made their attempt to escape.
