Skirting the western shore of the Severn Estuary, this rail journey will treat you to breath-taking views of the River Severn no matter what time of year you’re travelling.

The Severn Shores railway line delivers you from historic Cheltenham to the bustling Welsh city of Newport, with its unique blend of scenic and industrial heritage. Throughout the route you can enjoy panoramic views of the River Severn and rural South Gloucestershire.

From Gloucester the line meanders its way south towards the Royal Forest of Dean, before picking up the shoreline between Westbury on Severn and Newnham on Severn.

Apart from short bursts of the route, the railway line now hugs the Seven Estuary all the way past Lydney and Chepstow, travelling eastwards towards Caldicot and Newport.

As the line continues into South Wales, look out across the Estuary and you’ll see both of the impressive Severn Bridges connecting the road network from Wales to England.
